About This Place

Located in the heart of Monterey Park, Bachan's Take Out offers a delightful fusion of Japanese and Hawaiian flavors that satisfy both quick lunch cravings and relaxed, casual dinners. This family-run gem beautifully marries the fresh, clean tastes of Japanese cuisine with the rich, comforting dishes of Hawaiian tradition, creating a menu that's as diverse as it is delicious.

From the moment you step in or place your takeout order, you're greeted with a warm, island-inspired atmosphere that’s both inviting and unpretentious. Whether dining indoors—where seating is ample and accommodating for families with booster seats and high chairs—or enjoying your meal on the go, the experience feels authentic and heartfelt.

The menu is a treasure trove of mouthwatering options. The Furikake Crusted Ahi with Wasabi Aioli bursts with perfectly seared tuna, delicately crusted and complemented by a subtle kick of wasabi-infused cream, delivering a harmony of textures and flavors that dance on the palate. For those craving classic Hawaiian comfort, the Kalua Pork is tender and smoky, embodying the soul of a traditional luau.

Among other standouts, the Teriyaki Chicken Plate offers succulent, glazed meat with a balanced sweet-savory sauce, pairing exquisitely with fluffy steamed rice and fresh macaroni salad — a true local favorite. Seafood lovers will appreciate the Teriyaki Grilled Salmon and the Sauteed Ono with Soba, both dishes showcasing fresh catches with vibrant Asian-inspired seasonings. The Pepper Steak with Sesame Dipping Sauce offers a bold and savory flavor profile, while the innovative Chicken Taquitos with guacamole bring a playful twist that customers keep coming back for.

Bachan’s also caters to more casual cravings with a variety of burgers and sandwiches that showcase their Hawaiian-Japanese influence. Favorites include the Teri Avocado Burger and the Char Siu Avocado Sandwich, blending traditional flavors with fresh, creamy avocado to great effect. Their chili and curry fries elevate classic sides with island-friendly flair, perfect alongside the crunchy, golden shrimp tempura bites served with a sweet chili sauce.

Regular patrons attest to the consistently fresh, made-to-order quality of each plate, appreciating not only the generous portions but the thoughtful presentation. The efficient service ensures you rarely wait more than ten minutes for your meal, making it ideal for busy lunch breaks or casual dinners. One loyal customer fondly recalls childhood lunches here, underscoring the nostalgic quality that Bachan’s food can evoke—comforting, satisfying, and simply delicious.

Though the setting is modest, cleanliness and friendliness abound, and the kitchen’s care shines through every dish. Parking can get busy during peak hours, but neighborhood street parking provides ample alternatives. As a small family business, Bachan’s Take Out radiates a genuine passion for sharing island-inspired food that warms the soul and delights the senses.

If you're in Monterey Park and craving authentic Hawaiian and Japanese fare that balances affordability with heart, Bachan’s Take Out should be at the top of your list. Its menu offers something for everyone, from hearty short ribs and savory teriyaki plates to unique offerings like curry burgers and fresh soba salads, all served with aloha spirit and a smile.

We had take-out orders but Hawaiian/Polynesian theme Indoor dining is also available. Prices are reasonable and the food was good, fresh, and prepared to order. We waited less than 10 minutes to get our food. It’s good to see the menu posted on the front was outside of the restaurant.

I remember I use to have this for lunch when I used to work near their old location in Rosemead. Haven’t had them in about 8-9 years and this place still taste amazing!! You get a little more food for the price which is well worth it. I’ll be back again when I’m in town! Appreciate the old memories and delicious food!

New location. Small family business. Tasty Hawaiian food. Good seat quality. Good seat quantity.. Okay price. I believe the large doesn't seem worth the price difference; a scoop of rice + a 1 (or 2) bite salad for about $3 more?!?! I guess I'll blame it on inflation. I recommend the food here.

Very filling plates! The meat was tender. The sauces were good and aplenty. Portions are fair for the price. New location next to Bomb chicken on Garfield. Parking lot seems to get busy during peak times but there’s a neighborhood and the main streets you can always park along as well. Inside has plenty of seating, esp great for big groups or families. Lots of booster seats and high chairs available. No outdoor seating. It’s a casual local vibe here. Salmon wasn’t over cooked. Beef was flavorful. Soba was refreshing on a hot day! The soba sauce was a little lemon-y which I loved! A medium plate was more than enough for me. I wish they opened later because this would be a great dinner option. Great lunch option if you are nearby!

The front dining area look clean no bathrooms. But you really can’t tell how clean unless you can look into the kitchen. Always tasty Japanese take out. Today they partially over cook our ahi. Salmon plate was good. They have these chicken taquitos that we always get. Usually call ahead for faster service. All in all good food good service friendly. Funny you spend $35 and they still charge you for extra Teri sauce. Wow !!!

Nice Teriyaki spot. The chicken was good. They offer 3 different meal sizes. I love that. Great price! They also sell Dole Whip! I recommend looking at menu in my photos And calling in to order. I came for dinner during their soft opening at this new location and it was busy.. I can only imagine it will only get more packed, cuz we all know how much we needed a new teriyaki spot in this side of town. I wish they would maybe increase the rice to meat ratio. My kids and I noticed that it was a very small scoop of rice.
